About

Hello, girls and boys

My name is Fred Händl. I am a performing musician and a piano teacher. I was born in Bliesdorf (Germany) on October 2nd, 1972. My earliest memories, however, are not from Bliesdorf, but from Eindhoven (Netherlands). We moved there before I was two years old. I now live in The Hague, where I have my own little music studio, called The Yellow Hippo Studios.

I have studied music at the Conservatoire of Tilburg and after that, I studied Music Therapy in Nijmegen. Although I have been teaching piano for several decades now, I have not always been a full-time piano teacher. As an engineer in Information Technology, I have worked behind a desk for the best part of twenty years. In 2010, I switched to teaching music. Since 2014, I am also a performing musician, playing solo piano, as well as a keyboard/piano player in several bands.

This year (2022) I turned 50 and (never thought I would ever say that, but here goes) I am making plans, slowly but surely, to either broaden (or change even) my career(s). I love performing as a solo artist, especially in smaller environments, such as bars, hotels and living rooms and I am seriously considering doing more of this. Combined with my teaching practice, of course. Thinking about it, put a smile on my face. As of yet, no drastic changes in career have taken place, but the seed has been planted. I am carefully watering it, and keeping it out of the full sun.
